Of course his criticism will be "but Backblaze should handle all these non-standard configurations and support all these things I do like killing their processes" and I agree and we really try our best. Ok, with that said, Jonathan is the kind of customer Backblaze has the most trouble with, because he is really smart and knows lots of things, but he is so smart he is over confident that what he is doing won't hurt anything and gets himself into trouble by customizing his environment and computer so much and running a variety of crazy tools that destabilize software like Backblaze. With Jonathan's hint, I fixed the bug in less than 2 minutes, so I thank him for that! This issue was minor and I had never figured out WHY the Backblaze icon would sometimes disappear from the Windows tray, but it wasn't worth spending time on because it won't affect the backup and all you need to do is reboot your computer and the icon would return for several more years without disappearing. When the support engineer forwarded that message to me in 2017 (I did not know it was from Jonathan), I was so happy. "One just has to register for the window message and then run your Shell_NotifyIcon initialization again when the message comes." The production quality of that webpage is astoundingly good (with looped GIF graphics screen recordings!) I'll try my best to respond to parts of it.īut first let me say I interacted with Jonathan several times over the year, sometimes indirectly through support, and I didn't realize until this moment it was the same person in all the interactions! Very specifically this one caught my eye: About half of it Jonathan figured out PERFECTLY accurately, the rest he kind of gets a bit wrong here are there, but it is still amazing. Here is a comment: Jonathan spent a LOT of his personal time examining every nook and cranny of Backblaze and that writeup is nothing short of amazing. It would be interesting to see a comment from Backblaze on this issue. Disclaimer: I work at Backblaze and wrote most of the client Jonathan had so many problems with.
